Dr. Leena Bakshi intensively studies STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) education and how we can create access and opportunities for each and every student regardless of race, ethnicity, religion or socioeconomic status. After seeing the limited access that underrepresented students have to math and science and the inequitable systems within education, she decided to start STEM4Real, a nonprofit professional learning organization committed to combining STEM content learning and leadership combined with principles of social justice.
She worked as a secondary math and science teacher, county level administrator and served on the statewide network of educators collaborating with teachers, instructional coaches and administrators on the implementation of education standards. She also serves as the Board Secretary for the California Association of Science Educators and teaches pre-service teachers at UC Berkeley and Claremont Graduate University.
She has researched schools spanning all across the state of California and completed her doctoral dissertation on The Successful Implementation of STEM Initiatives in Lower Income Schools.
Her research interests include Science/STEM education and how we can create access and opportunities for each and every student regardless of race, ethnicity, religion or socioeconomic status. Leena strives to use the rest of her time to eat lots of different foods with her family and bond with her very energetic and curious 9 month old.
